    Hello
I, an incompetent, am trying to create a standard 4GB DVD from a DIVX scource. The material works in VLC. I have studiously read the very clear manual and have setup the parametres accordingly. But get the magic 30sec file creation that is invisible at its destination. I offer the following code. (My installation of the various components was accepted only after I had created a password in my user settings, which was not the case before installation.)
Can anybody look at this and tell what I did wrong?

The installation of mpeg2enc failed, so you need to reinstall again.

I redownloaded the files that appear as code in explorer. I copied the code to a txt file and reinstalled both the code and ffmeg. THe installer was happy, but when I try to covert a DIVX to DVD, I get the lignting fast, invisible file result.

Also, when using material that is not TV ratio do I choose a ratio that corresponds in your list and expect to have the bars appear or do reconvert back to 4:3 to then have the TV shrink the image (DVD on TV naturally)

Lastly, I don't know how you do this code stuff but I find it admirable. Thank you

That's likely because the file has no suffix. If you option-click the link, it will download to a file. Maybe that will help.

Thank you. It did the trick (eventually)

Now for more problems. I launched a divx to DVD conversion and it was going very well until the last minute when it failed. The result is that I have 3 files that are the result of the marathon 8 hour encoding.
2 of them are standard .mpg files that In QT easily. The first is 1.9GB and has 90% of the audio, the 2nd is the last 10%. Both have encoded audio and work fine. The 3rd is a m2v file of the complete program but is mute which reluctantly opens in QT.
The hope was to have a muxed DVD all ready to burn, so what went wrong and do I have to start again?

Encoding started on Sat Feb 28 12:51:08 CET 2004

  6. Take the .m2v and the .mp2 files and run them into the "Mux as.." tool.

  8. Make sure you're using .m2v and .mp2 as input, NOT .mpg

I had a similar problem converting a 3ivx-encoded .AVI to DVD. Along with the problems you've seen, I had a problem with the .MP3-encoded audio-- the .MP2 ripped by ffmpegX was silent. VLC played the original .AVI with sound, but QT Player wouldn't play the sound even after I installed the free 3ivx QT Plug-ins. After running DIVX Doctor, QT Player could play the audio, and the .mp2 from ffmpegX contained sound.

I also had the problem of ffmpegX creating a muxed 1.9GB .mpg, but producing an error before encoding the rest of the file. Since it was also my goal to produce a DVD, I simply used Sizzle 0.1 with the .m2v & mp2 to create a disk image, then burned the image using Toast 5. Would be nice to know why ffmpegX choked, but after several long encoding sessions I just wanted to finish the project.
