I've been trying to decide which "advanced" video editor to purchase. From what i've read, i like the sound of Vegas 4, but it appears a weakness is the mpeg encoder. Can you "plug-in" alternate encoders? This also goes for VS7 which I love for simple projects. Sounds to me like CCE is a great one, but I don't really want to deal with a two step procedure or framesurfing. I'd rather find out before spending $500 on vegas and another $60 on CCE.

Cleaner XL, Procoder and MainConcept all plug into Adobe Premiere. I use Procoder and the Adobe version of MC with Premiere. Works quite well.

Vegas uses MainConcept's MPEG codec.
