I do video editing in Adobe Premier and backup to DVD. I need to find a way to convert the .VOB files back to .AVI files in 720 line resolution so that I can make further edits.

I have tried to use the DVD2AVI and been able to convert back to 320 line resolution. I then found the "Huffy" driver/plugin, but when I save the AVI file that way it is not readable.

I do not have a problem pulling the DVD's back to the .VOB files. My problem is getting the .VOB files to .AVI files at 720 line resolution to where I can edit them.

Thanks in advance for any assistance on this.

  2. It might not be the most elegant way or even the best way but you can convert a DVD (VOB files) to individual MPEG-2 files using TMPGEnc DVD Author. From there, converting to AVI should be easy.

  3. ? Are you sure you mean DVD Author? As far as I know it only goes the other way mpg2 to vob.

If it'll go the other way, how to do? I'm curious as I made the mistake of only saving the VOB files that had what I wanted in them to HD and want to edit and convert to another format so that I can accumulate enough small bits and pieces to put on one DVD without loading up the drive with complete DVD rips just for a 3 minute clip.

    Cheers

Yes, I author the DVD's as backup... When the AVI is 200 Mb per minute, DVD Video is a very viable backup, but I am finding that restore is another story.

I tried this, but it seem to only want to open .avi files. Will look at it again and see what I am doing wrong.

    Thanks.
