  1. I have a Philips DVDR70 DVD recorder whick works really very well. The only bit that seems not to work is the 'Auto Resume' function. According to the manual, the machine should remember the last 20 DVDs played and should start playing from where you left off.

It doesn't seem to work. Has anyone else experienced problems with this?

I tried the Philips support desk. They suggested I take it back to where I bought it but this seems a bit over the top for an otherwise good machine.

    Thanks in advance.

How are you stopping the DVD? The AutoResume function on every player that I've seen only works if you press the "Stop" button once. Two times clears that movie from memory. Also, it usually only resumes if you were watching the main movie or one of the extras.

  3. I'm sure I've only pressed 'stop' once but I'll certainly give that a go. Thanks!

  4. I did a spot of testing last night. If I stop a DVD, take it out, put it back and play it, it continues from the correct place.

If however I insert another DVD instead, play it, and then put the first one back, it just starts from the beginning. Its almost as thought it can only remember 1 instead of 20.

Any further info would be appreciated.

  5. May be obvious, but you do have the function enabled in the disc menu don't you?

  6. Yes, I have enabled it. I have also set the machine to low power usage when off (display goes off) but this shouldn't affect it should it?

    Thanks.

  7. Do you test "commercial" DVD or "home made" DVD ?

  8. Last night I tried discs I had recorded myself on the DVDR70. In the past it has also not worked for commercially recorded discs.

If your player is functioning correctly, it shouldn't matter whether the disc is a copy or retail. If the setting is turned on, and it's only remembering the last disc inserted, then you might have a hardware problem. The power-save mode shouldn't matter either. I think it uses some sort of flash memory to store the disc information. You might want to take Philips' advice and exchange the player for a new one.

  10. Thanks for the suggestion. Before I go through the hassle of exchanging, can anyone confirm that they have a DVDR70 on which the Auto Resume functions correctly

  11. I have the DVDR75 which is identical to your 70 except I have a firewire input on the front. The rest of the machine should be excatly the same as yours, including, I believe, the firmware (save for revisions/updates).

Mine is running on the original firmware.

the autoresume DOES work on mine, it works whether I press the stop then open button, just press open or press/hold the stop on remote to force eject. In fact, I don't know how to STOP it auto resuming!

I can power of the machine (to stanby) and it still remembers.

Think you may well have a faulty unit m8

  13. I have done a bit more experimenting over the weekend. It seems to be dependent on how you stop playing. If you stop play and eject the disc straight away it works. If you stop play and then move to a different title, it doesn't. I just need to remember to stop and eject without doing anything else.

    Thanks for all the input
