Hi everybody,
I'm capturing soccer from TV in analog Half-D1 PAL (352x576) MPEG2, via my GeForce4 Ti4200 Vi, using MainConcept 1.4 with the following Settings:
- Basic Settings:
- Video Type: PAL DVD (relaxed standards ON)
- Fields: Upper field first
- Deinterlacing: Disabled
- Video bitrate: 6000 (constant)
- Video encoder quality: 25 (increased from the default 21)
Video Settings (pretty much the default ones, except the framesize)- Framerate: 25 fps
- Aspect ratio: 4:3
- Framesize: 352x576
- GOP I frames: 12
- GOP P frames: 3
- Auto GOP: None
- Closed GOP interval: 0
- Bitrate: Constant 6000 kbps, Mode 1
Advanced Video Settings
Default values:- Profile ID: Main profile
- Level ID: Main level
- Noise sensitivity: 12 (NR)
- Motion search mode: 7
- Do half-pel search: On (do I really need this enabled?)
- Motion search pixel movement: Disabled
- RGB input video: Disabled
- User wuant matrices: Off
Audio Settings- Deafult values
Multiplexer Settings- Deafult values
My problem is that when I burn it to a DVDR (via Ulead DMF2) and go to watch the game on the TV, the lower half of the screen shows quite jerky, epsecially when the players are near the camera. To make it a bit more clear, imagine a player running on the field... his upper body looks ok, but his running feet look jerky.
I suspect it has something to do with quick moving scenes, but dunno what to change in teh settings. I tried various bitrates, constant and VBR (including MC's default VBR: min=3845, avg=6000, max=8000), without luck. So I think it doesn't have to do with bitrates, but with something else! Any help here?
Btw, so far I've used MC 1.4 with the above settings to record movies from the TV and they come out pretty cool. I only noticed teh problem when I tried to record soccer-games.
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated!
Best regards,
PS 1. Some background info:
WDM drivers: nVidia 2.20 ViVo (latest)
Ti drivers: nVidia Detonators 53.03
DirectX version: 9.0b
PS 2.Capturing with VDub and PV2MJPEG (qual 19) and frameserving to TMPGEnc (with a slightly modified DVD PAL template, mostly the framesize and NOT closing the GOP structures -same as with my MC settings) gives me GREAT results, even when lowering CBR down to 4500 kbps.
But it could be nice to save some time by capturing directly to MPEG2 with MC 1.4.

Ok guys, let me rephrase the question, in an effort to get someone intersted in answering.
What do you think are the best settings for capturing sport events directly to MPEG2 Half-D1 (from standard TV broadcast) with MainConcept 1.4?
The default settings yield a quite jerky output when there's a lot of quick moves.
Should I enable and set the "Motion Search Pixel Movement" in the advanced tab? Manual says valid values are from 3 to 11.Which ones (both horizontally and vertical) produce decent results. What about "Do half-pel search" in the same tab? And what about the quality slider in the Basic Settings tab?
From my tests, I tend to beleive the problem does not reside to bitrates, but to some other settings.
PS. Should I post the question to the Advanced forum?
