Stuff to note before I begin:

*I'm using Premiere 6.0 because I am too poor to upgrade to CS
*All projects I have worked on prior to this have been under 30 minutes in length

I recorded an episode of SNL to S-VHS a few weeks ago and dumped it to MiniDV to edit and assemble a DVD. I am using the standard Microsoft DV codec for capture and output. The final project without commericals was about 45 minutes long. I attempted to export the the entire project to a Microsoft DV AVI file. When the file reached 3.99 GB exporting stopped. I still had 50 GB of hard drive space, so I know that wasn't the problem. I wanted to see if this is because Premiere has a limit to the size of a AVI you can export, or if it is some other fluke reason.

    Hi mec_modifier,

I'd be surprised if Premiere can't do more than 45 mins of footage.

A shot in the dark...: What file system are you using with Win Xp? I believe that one of them (can't remember which way round it is FAT32 or NTFS - whichever one Win98 uses) has a file limit of 4Gb. Maybe it's that?
There is some corner of a foreign field that is forever England: Telstra Stadium, Sydney, 22/11/2003.

    Carpe diem.

If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much room.

  3. As Daamon says, looks like you have a FAT32 file system which limits files to 4Gig in size. I have output over 2 hours of video in DV from Premiereto NTFS formatted drives before so its not Premiere.

You can change a filesystemn from FAT to NTFS without reformatting and its pretty safe though I found some apps had to be re-installed wehen I did it once.

By Jiminy, that's got to be it. I never really noticed, but my External HDD is still in FAT32 from when I purchased it. I'll do a quickie back-up and format it for NTSF and see if it works.

    Thanks
