  1. im trying to use tmpgenc to convert a handful of AVI files to SVCD MPGs. when I load the files into tmpg and begin converting, the current/total frame number (next to the progress bar) states that the file contains over 100,000 frames. in actuality, the file is about 35,000 frames.

first of all, tmpg will only let me convert the AVI video. i have to demux the audio, convert it, and mux it back in at the end of the process. also, it takes about three times as long to convert the video as it should, and then i have to find the proper end point in the video, cut out a new file, and multiplex with the audio.

tmpg will show the correct frame number with other avi files. the problem files in question were encoded with Xvid, probably all by the same person if that helps.

has anyone encountered this problem before? id really appreciate any advice or suggestions.

    thanks

  2. load the avi into gspot and find out what the frame rate of the video is.

you need to change tmpgenc settings depending on what your source fps is.

  5. nevermind.....solved my own problem. (thanks to the troubleshooting guide at the top of the page)

demuxing the audio and using the WAV as the audio source corrected the frame number

Just out of interest, did virtualdub warn that the avi had VBR aencoded audio?
