    when im converting 2 mpeg (vcd) (adding subtitles) from avi my movie is about 930mb n i was wondering how can i reduce this size?

    would i b able 2 exctract the audio (reduce the bitrate of it from 244 2 like 128 or summin ) from the avi n then when converting 2 mpeg....is that possible? if so how can it b done?
    will i still b able 2 play the vcd in my stand alone player?

    Lower your bitrate setting when you encode, it's the last screen of the project wizard.

    You may have to load the unlock template.
    If in doubt, Google it.

    Load your VCD template;
    Load Unlock template;
    Goto Template settings;
    Adjust biteare.
    If in doubt, Google it.

    100mb and a VCD???? no way!
    if you crunch it down a lot you might get around 750mb - and it would probably look crap

    Ok Ok - well actually if you unlock the TMPEG template and put in a really low bitrate you might get down to around 100MB but the image would probably look like about 32 large moving dots and that's about it
    Some things are too large to compress that much with MPEG1

    Lowering the audio bitrate to 128 will help a bit but the video bitrate also has to be lowered. If you try to do that and still keep the vcd in spec it will probably not look very good.
    Time is an important factor when trying to fit a movie on 1 cd (<800mb). How long is the video? If it's much longer than 60 minutes then you might want to try to make a non standard (x)vcd. Look at the templates in the tool section. You will have to try one to see if your standalone player will accept those. There may be some info in the DVD player section of the site.

    By 100Mb, no TO 100Mb I assume you mean.

    You have to set it encode as MPEG-1 Video-CD (non-standard). This is on the system tab of the settings dialog. Not sure if it can be changed in the wizard as I never use it!

    Unless you are willing to cut out credits or some other info then, like I said before, get the tmpgenc templates from the tools section. Try kwag's and you will have no trouble getting the file size of a 90 minute video down to less than 800mb. The only way to know for sure if your player accepts those is to try one disc yourself although as I said before there may be some info on your player in the "DVD Players" section of this site which may tell you if it can play (x)vcds.

    I used to use kwag templates but my Apex player needed my ntsc video to be 29.97 instead of the (kwag) recommended 23.97 fps. I just adjusted the fps to 29.97 with no pulldown (up) so they would play on my player. Even with the larger filesize I still had no problems fitting a 90 minute movie on 1 disc.
    Although I had reasonable success at the time, the quality is highly subjective and is dependant on source so I must warn you that some people don't like the templates. At your request, I'm only providing you with an option to consider. You may find them to your liking.
