If you open an individual VOB file on your HD, there will be no sound, only video. If you play (not just an individual VOB)the movie via the VIDEO_TS folder the audio for each VOB it plays will be there.

P.S. Forgot to add that you need to set DeCryptor to rip as "Region Free."

No, you can play each individual VOB by itself by double clicking on it via explorer. I do this as well to check and see quality, etc.

As to why your first vob isn't playing sound, I don't know. Try burning to a RW disc to see if it works or not.

  6. Re: no audio, it may be that you may have stripped the 'default' audio track for the DVD.. so you may have to go into the menu and manually select the retained audio track..

As to region code, not sure.. the DVD may have RCE 'protection' on it.. Import into IFOedit and do 'Region Free' on VIDEO_TS.IFO and save it.. this should fix it. This happened to me once while trying to backup an NTSC episodic TV title..

  8. Yeah, good point.. Try this, open up the files (VIDEO_TS.IFO) via PowerDVD or any DVD player software you have on your pc.. go to the menu and try selecting audio tracks one by one, then hit 'play' from the main menu after each selection and see what happens... Also check to see if the extras/previews have audio..

Only other thing is try ripping it again to your hdd and start over.. sorry.

I just had a similar experience. Trying to do a backup of "something about mary" using dvdshrink. Reauthored for only movie and 5.1 audio. When I opened the .vob files up in powerdvd, no audio at all. And when I right clicked and tried to select which audio for it to play, it had none to select.

Weird... so I opened it up in windows media player, and it worked perfectly. Fingers crossed that it works fine after being burnt

/edit - burn works perfectly fine. seems to be some weird problem with powerdvd

I backed up Seabiscuit for my parents - grandchildren on the loose!

I used the re-author mode in DVDShrink and dropped ALL the extras, retained the original movie & audio - re-authored in TMPGend DVD Author - no problems reported.

Most of the movies that I backed up with DVD Shrink and tried to retain too much content via compression have failed - They DID play well originally - while the "re-authored" ones, with only the movie ripped, are pretty much trouble-free.

I did loose some to a bad batch of BeAll's and OptoDisc's
