  1. Hi guys,

I've been using DVDShrink / Nero 6 to backup several movies with no problems...until last night!!

What happened was I used DVDShrink to rip a DVD and I had made sure the total file size was under 4500MB (it was actually 4335MB with a little white showing together with the green slide bar on top of the DVDShrink screen). However when I tried to burn it to a DVD-R with Nero 6, the status bar at the bottom of Nero 6 indicated it was over 4700MB and didn't let me start the burn procress.

I have never encountered this problem before until last night. Any help would be appreciated.

    My system:
    Sony 1.8G
    Sony DRX-510UL
    512 Ram

  2. I would reshrink the DVD again and put the size even lower this time.

  3. Thommers,

I did! In fact I had done it 3 times in order to finally get it under 4500MB with Nero 6. I had to cut the whole file size down to 4100MB but then the movie's compressed ratio went down to 66%

With my previous 'back-ups', I didn't have to do this...

    Help please...

I have been doing much the same.

I usually however aim to use 90 - 95% of the disc to allow for any hitches like that.

    Not had any problems yet

If you re- DVD Shrink it, and put a higher compression setting in, you shouldnt have any further problems.

I have the most recent version of DVD Shrink and it allows you to choose the compression ratio you wish to use, so you shouldnt need to Shrink more than once...

Some movies are very long. Did you keep everything? I've never had a Movie-Only backup not fit. I have had one DVD9 that wouldn't fit, and one DVD18 (Dollar for first person that can name that movie!) that didn't stand a chance of ever fitting on 1 DVDR.

Try dropping Audio you don't need, and doing menu's as stills.

  7. I never use Nero, I have heard of too many problems. I would use a version of RecordNow. It is reliable, easy, and has never given me the problem you stated (unless I change the size again and forget to refresh).

  8. Gazorgan,

No, the movie was only 110 minutes long and I only kept the menu, movie and deleted scenes. Others (like preview, storyboard I ditched), I even took out Spanish and other audios that I didn't need.

I've have done longer movies with no problems until last night...what's up with that?
