  1. Hi,

I've got an external Audigy2NX plugged via optical out in to my home cinema kit. I've got the sound card and powerdvd setup to SDPDIF pass thru. When I play a dvd with ac3 directly from the dvd drive I get full dobly digital (I get the logo on the cinema system). When I play a .ac3 file is also plays in full dobly digital. When I play a .avi with AC3 (verified via GSPOT) I can only get pro logic. How can I achieve full 5.1 from a .avi with AC3.

    Cheers,

    LeighJ

What are you playing the AVI with? Not all players will pass the AC3 stream. And is it a true 5.1 stream? A lot of AVI's are a 2 channel stream (Hence the pro logic symbol, you are getting 4 muxed channels) to save bandwidth.

Only way to tell is to make your own. Paw through your DVD's for a THX trailer and DivX it.

  3. Gazorgan,

I'm using Media Player V9 & PowerDVD V5 full version. GPOT give me this info "ac3 (0x2000) Dolby Laboratories, Inc" & "448 kb/s (5 ch) CBR". I'll rip one myself to be sure, are the readings above correct for 5.1?

    Cheers man,
