  2. Don't know about that, but here's an interesting little box that would allow you to do the same thing with your existing VCR:

Yes, I have seen that. I was looking for something built in to the VCR. I don't think it exist. Which is why I posted the question. That would be the alternative though.

    Thanks

  4. Tommyoz,

Sorry I couldn't help. I've seen loads of multisystem VCRs, but not with the features you mentioned. Good luck to you.

  5. Here is my research so far... I've been looking into the same thing. Looks like so far the best one is the JVC HR-S8965. But you would have to convert power since it is is not auto switchable. My listing below is somewhat disorganized, but it should still be of help. I was first looking into getting just a PAL VCR, then multi, then multi with TBC (seen at the bottom).

    HITACHI VT-695 6 HEAD $139
Hitachi VT-FX695E 6 head VCR $119 (bombay electronics)
    Hitachi VT-M748E 4 Head multisystem VCR $139
HITACHI VT-M748E 4 Head VCR $114 good not sure if it is stereo

    JVC HRJ-491 4 HEAD $119
    JVC HRJ-72MS 6 HEAD $139
JVC HR-J71MS 6 Head Hi-Fi VCR $134 dual voltage? (bombayelectronics)
    JVC HR-J82MS 6 Head Hi-Fi VCR $119
    JVC HR-J71MS 6 Head Hi-Fi VCR $119 (Worldwide electronics)
    - Wide Quality for wide screen 16:9 and 4:3 TVs (this feature makes me want this one)

    PANASONIC HV-60 6 HEAD $179
    PANASONIC MV-40 4 HEAD $149
    Panasonic NV-SJ500 4 Head Multisystem VCR $149
    Panasonic NV-SJ530 4 Head VCR $134

SHARP VH-990 6 HEAD VC with PAL & NTSC $219
    SHARP VC-AA550 4 Head VCR $119

Sony SLV-ED818 HIFI Multisystem VCR 6 Head $189
Sony SLV-ED939 6 Head MultiSystem VCR $169 (bombayelectronics)
    SONY SLV-ED 828 6 Head Hi-Fi VCR $164 **I am leaning towards this one
    - emphasis on picture quality. Seems built like a tank.

    Toshiba VE-60 6 head $139
TOSHIBA Deluxe Multi System VCR 6 Head $179

    Questions:

    mono/stereo
    switching power supply
    plays PAL
    outputs PAL

    JVC VCR with TBC
    ----------------

    HR-S9911 $349 4mb TBC NTSC
    HR-S9911U $399 4mb TBC (PAL/NTSC? What is the 'U' for?)
HR-S7955 *** 2mb TBC, PAL, NTSC playback over PAL, 16x9 (switchable powersupply?)
HR-S7965 *** (newer model?) 2mb TBC, PAL, NTSC playback over PAL, 16x9, powersupply not switchable
HR-S8965 2mb TBC, PAL, NTSC playback over PAL, 16x9, powersupply not switchable

  6. So you did find some. I'll have to look into those. Damn!! I couldn't find anything. I actually emailed one supplier and asked them, but they never responded. I can't understand why companies don't respond when they are in the business to sell. I guess that's another subject though.

    Thanks,

  7. dphirschler,
So close but yet so far. Those VCR's are pal. I am looking for NTSC VCR that will convert to Pal with TBC.

  8. Are you talking about the JVC (at the bottom)? It's a PAL VCR, true. But it will play the NTSC tapes and output PAL. Isn't that what you want? I downloaded a PDF of the instruction manual for a couple of those JVCs. That's the understanding I got from reading the instruction manual.

I'm sorry, I mislead you. I am looking for NTSC multisystem VCR (I'm from the US) that I can view Pal tapes if needed.

  10. I'm in the US too. As long as your capture card can capture PAL, then I believe you won't have a problem. I assumed that was what you wanted since you posted in the 'capture' forum.

I forget if it was a Samsung or a Sharp, but it came up at the top of my searches for "conversion" VCRs. It was quite a bit more though. So much that I didn't even list it in my research ($800 or so? I forget). I wonder if it'd be cheaper to use a PC with Descaler to convert PAL to NTSC.

It's best to get a PAL VCR and separate NTSC VCR. If I had it to do over again, I'd never have gotten my worldiwde unit. It's a pain in the butt, and I use it mostly in PAL mode, as the conversion sucks.

Which worldwide unit do you have?
