I am looking for a DVD recorder to supplement our DVD authoring system. We have customers who want to copy vhs, Hi8, etc to DVD without the expense of authoring the program. We need to be able to create chapter marks or titles at random points rather than a pre-determined period (3, 5 mins). This unit was recommended as it has an internal HD. My question is, doesn't this still involve "authoring" as it is a multiple step process? Does a unit like the DMR E50 allow you to record multiple titles (by pausing the recording and starting it again)? Any input would be appreciated.

If you need to create chapter marks at random points, this machine won't do it. No authoring, there is only one step - finalizing. You can record multiple titles. You can accomplish what you want and 'create' chapter stops by starting and stopping recording which probably isn't saving you or your customers any time or money in the long run.Originally Posted by videobob

Yes you can create your own chapater points where you decide. It is possible when you record to HD, mark chapter points and than high-speed dub to DVD-R.

This is great, thanks donpedro. I frequently import VRO files from my DMR-HS2 into TMPGEnc DVD Author using DVD-RAM. I would then set my chapter points in TDA. I didn't realize I could set my own chapter points in the HS2, by using "markers" on the DVD-RAM, and that TDA would recognize these. Now I can sit on my rear in front of my TV, set chapter points using my Panasonic remote, then import the results in TDA, which recognizes my "markers" as chapter points. So with a few minor tweaks in TDA, it's ready to burn. I figured this out from your reply. Thanks again.Originally Posted by donpedro
