  1. Hi everyone,

Is there any real difference between a $30 and a $300 (or more) converter? I have a Sony cam with Zeiss optics and wondered if it's really worth it or not. I don't intend on doing stills with these lenses.

...and what about the telephoto adapters? I would guess optics would probably make more of a difference.

    Thanks!

  2. Where did you find one for $30?

I would guess there is a definate difference between the cheap one and the pricey one.

    some things to consider:
The cheap one might exhibit a little pincushion or barrel distortion.
The cheap one might be made with plastic lenses instead of glass.
The cheap one might lose more brightness to the image.
The cheap one might even be a little blurry.

Of course you would have to really check it out to verify any of that. It may just be that the cheap one is just bulky and heavy but works just as well.

Do you have some links for the products? I am interested in getting one too... especially for $30. I was considering making my own, but not if I can buy one for $30.

  3. Actually, I think you could find them any place you go. Best Buy sells the Sima version for about $30. But then it could be a plastic lens.

  4. Sorry, I was thinking WideSCREEN adapter... as in anamorphic lens. I haven't been able to find those very cheap at all. I can make one, but it will be somewhat bulky (almost as big as the camera). I am making one anyways for my projector.
