  1. i am getting a new mobo and cpu (Athlon XP 1.5 ghz) and am wondering something about memory and video. I was wondering if 256mb DDR would be good (for now) to do video recording. I do now and it is pretty good. Here are my specs

    Athlon 600mhz
    576mb PC133 Ram
    AIW Radeon 7500 64mbDDR
    Creative PCI Sound Card
    Lynksys NIC 60gb hard drive

256M is enough for now, you can add another memory module later. If you can get a faster processor than the 1500XP, that will be of more value. If you plan to do much video editing, a second hard drive of 80G or bigger would also be a future purchase.

  3. I was hoping it would be enough for now. Also i am not getting a XP1500 i am getting a getting a 1.73 or 1.8 ghz. I already run Win2000 in a stripped down mode. I went to BlackViper's site and disables all processes that i dont need and i got very good results. I had already planned on going to about 768 or 1gb of ram later but wanted to make sure 256 would be decent for now.

Sorry; With AMD I usually look at the model, not the speed. If you are going for a 1.8MHZ AMD, check the AMD 2500 Barton Processor. That's what I am using. With the right memory (DDR 3200) and a MB that can take the most advantage of the CPU and memory, you can get a very fast system for a small price. I had a XP1800 before and this is a lot faster.

  6. what is the difference bewtween an Athlon XP 2400 1.93ghz with 356kb and a 2500 1.8ghz 512kb? The Price is similar and i am wondering.

The 2500 is running a Barton core and has a FSB of 333 MHz as opposed to the 2400 with the 266 MHz bus. While the faster actual clock speeds will be the most important for straight encoding it's the bus speeds that are going to make life easier overall with your system.
