  1. Hi!

I have just started burning DVDs, re-encoding AVI to MPEG using TMPGEnc, and I have found that whatever I do I always seem to end up with 4:3 aspect ratio images. That is to say, when I try to play back a DVD that has been encoded on TMPGEnc, the screen always defaults to 4:3 on my DVD player and i have to manually set the aspect ratio to the correct setting using my remote. There are black bars across the top as expected, and if I adjust the screen manually I do get a widescreen image, but it does not default to widescreen when I play the MPEG. Instead, I have to cycle through my TVs aspect ratio button until I get widescreen.

Compare this to NERO 6: this re-encodes the same file from AVI to MPEG, but plays it back at its original widescreen settings on my TV without me having to make any adjustments.

How can I adjust TMPGEnc so that it re-encodes a widescreen recording AVI to an MPEG in widescreen and not 4:3? I am using PAL settings. I cannot seem to change the aspect ratio in the video tab, though I can change the source aspect ratio and the video arrange method in the advanced tab (under settings.)

    Can someone please help?

    Dan
