  1. Hi,
I searched the forums and I didn't find the exact answer to my question. I'm looking to convert a file that I captured in iMovie from my tv to DivX or some variant there of. I used the export with motion jpeg A method in imovie. Everything works fine except for the deinterlacing part. I have tried all of the different codecs. Fast DivX Divx libav, XviD, mencoder mpeg4. All with various different options including deinterlace on and off on those and the other options such as deblock, denoise etc. on and off in just about every combonation i can think of. I still end up with the horizontal lines. They are not nearly as visible as the Motion JpegA file but they are still visible. I also tried selecting the deinterlace option in quicktime and saving the file as a new self contained file but that doesnt seem to work either. Also tried the single field button in quicktime, but to no avail. Lastly I tried using the JES interlace program that i read about in the mac forums. It works to Deinterlace but the only options it lets me deinterlace to are. photo jpegA, 2uv and yuv. the 2uv and yuv are too big to fit on my hdd when fully converted (22 min file over 20 gigs) and the photo jpegA doesnt seem to work in FFmpeg. Is there any other method or steps to doing this.
Sorry for the super long post, and if anyone actually reads this far and can help me then thanks very much.

In iMovie it would have been better if you had exported to Full DV rather to motionjpgA. The downside is that the DV file will use up alot of space on your HD, the upside is that you will have no problem converting to divx with ffmpegx and the deinterlacing filter will work well.

If you have the iMovie project still and the HD space you should do that. Going to motionjpegA will be introdcing another set of characteristics and (possibly) problems.

As a tip I would recomend staying away from all the other filters unless you know exactly what you are doing.

  3. I unfortunaly dont have the imovie project anymore, and DV has always given me problems when encoding in ffmpegX And I dont have enough hdd space for full dv either
