  1. Ok,

Here is what I wanna do, I currently have a collectoin of DVD's, that I want to back up on my HDD, I dont want to watch them when on the HDD, and also want to save disk space.

So my question is, how do I squeez a ripped DVD to the max, to save Hard disk space, and when I need to put them on a DVD disk, re"unpack" for burning to DVD-R, without loosing image quality when unpacked?

After ripping them to your HD how about trying WinZip and see how much reduction you can get...

Wishful thinking my friend. A DVD is already compressed pretty heavily to enable the quality that they provide. Because the files are already compressed, winzip and winrar will not be able to compress them much.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  4. Try using WINZIP to zip(compress) the files till needed.
When needed simply unzip(de-compress) the file.

Norton Ghost can compress a 4-5gb partition to an image that will fit on a CDr.

I don't know how good it works with compressed video files on a partition though.

It wont work good with video files...the only way to reduce the size a lot is to reconvert to another video format(=reducing video qualiy).

I didn't figure it would because the video is already compressed, but then I never tried. Does a hell of a job compressing the hell outta regular data though.
