  1. There is a very common error found in bad quality vhs tapes it simply isn't able to correct. It's the thing that causes images to suddently start losing their shape and start warping. If you have rare tapes you want to transfer over to dvd and they have this problem you're out of luck with the sony.
How did you find about that? Did you make your own tests?
I never heard about that problem and definitely I didn't notice anything like that when I did my test. In contrary, I found that Sony had the best recording from the analog inputs.

  2. A few other new Sony DVD Recorders are listed here, among other new Sony products.
It says the availability is April 2004, but who knows.

    These are the models:
    RDR-GX300
    RDR-GX700
    RDR-HX900

It's a good thing I brought back my RDR-GX7. That RDR-HX900 sounds great.

So, I guess the answer to the piano632's question (the first one in this thread) is "Never" (as in the HX8/10 won't be available in the U.S.)??

Geez, I hope that's the case. I read a Sony press release which stated availability and pricing for the 700/900 models will be announced this spring.

    Exactly.
I assume you're referring to this press release. (or something similar)

Another line that stands out in that press release is, "The RDR-GX300 DVD dual RW recorder will be available in July for about $500."

Yes, that's why I was so amazed that the panasonic actually corrected it. Sony simply made it worse.

Yes, that's the press release to which I was referring.

Re July availability for the GX300, isn't that kind of late considering the new Panasonics are scheduled to be available before that time?
