  1. PC DVD+R or DVD Recorder?
    Philips DVR80

To get DV camcorder videos onto DVD, would quality be better using something like a standalone DVD Recorder than a PC?

For “direct to disc” - What settings would you have on a PC software like MyDVD or MF3 to get the same results as if you went direct to the Philips?

I see the Philips DVR80 has what looks like a best bit rate of 9.72M (cbr I presume) and AC-3 audio; 16bit, 48khz and 2-channel

While the PC programs from Ulead, Sonic, Pinnacle, Ahead, etc. all have the xtra features to make those cool menus, which gives the better final result for this application, the pc road or a freestanding recorder?

If recorded on a DVD+RW on the Philips couldn’t you then edit the disc on a pc to add in the cool features, titles, etc?

I haven’t used a deck like this but it seems like it would make the process of getting the DV onto a DVD much quicker, but do you give up anything important?

  2. 1) Using the search box at the page top, do an all forum search on the phillips unit and browse the results for relevant info.

    2) click on the hi-lited phillips name in your original post. that will take you to a page with more info about the player.

Gong the pc route does give more flexibility; baggage is the associated learning curves, hw/sw investment, etc.

Conversely, the set top recorder is usually simpler/faster to use, but is limited by it's dedicated design.
