  1. I am looking for a tool which I can use to capture from my firewire card/Sony DV cam combination. I have been using Main Concept DV Capture, which does a great job, but requires constant monitoring, start/stop etc.

What I would like, is a tool which monitors the input stream, and creates a new avi file whenever the input stream switches scene. i.e. whenever I pressed pause or stop on the camera while filming.

Is there any such tool available for Win2k??

  2. ...some card/sw packages out there provide a feature they call 'automatic scene detection'. After you transferred your video (via the software), it creates thumbnails for each scene change encountered in the video file. I doubt if she creates a separate file for each scene change. But with this feature, you have a way of identifying a certain segment of the video file.

    Studio DV has this feature.

    hope this helps.

  3. Thanks jtor.

The reason I was after the separate files is because I am using ULead Video and it is a pain to handle multi-gig files with it. So individual 'scene' files would be perfect, as this is how I capture manually. If I don't actually find a tool to do the breaking up, I guess it is time for me to progress to a more full featured editing suite.
