  1. I have 2 drives on my computer, a CD burner and a DVD burner, I found out that Windows only allows one to be set up as being able to record. Is it possible to have them both set up to record so I don't have to remember to enable the one I want to use?

This lesson was learned at a cost of 2 blank DVD disks.

Why has microsoft done this and should they be allowed too, it seems to me that they are overstepping they bounds and a class action lawsuit might be a good idea here.

Opps, Windows XP home edition of course.

i don't think this is the case --- unless you are using windows lame built in burner ..

i have anywhere from 2 - 6 burners at a time and can use all of them .. even burning to cd while burning multple dvd's at the same time ..

exactly. do some research on your configuration and figure out what the deal is. what you are describing is not a limitation of xp but an error in your setup.

what program are you trying to burn with?

  4. then why does Window's give me the explaination only one burner can be enable to record at a time?

I had used my cd burner to extract files from a CD I had created to transfer them from one computer to the next, I then went and tried to create a DVD only to get a coaster after a two second burn. I just happen to think to check and see if for some reason that recording was enable on the drive and it wasn't, so I looked at the other drive and it was unchecked after I had enable my DVD drive. I clicked on the (?) icon for Microsoft help and was given that message. I had thought at one time they were both enable but I had never used my CD burner before.

NOW - IF I UNDERSTAND CORRECTLY:

I only need a drive checked to record for use with Windows and it's drag and drop abilities, I shouldn't need it check for use with my burning software. But when it's not checked on my DVD burner the software stops in the burning process which would be a problem with the software, not Windows.
