When viewing the file contents of a DVD on my PC, I see that there are two directories, AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS.
Using DVD Shrink I've reauthored and burned movie-only backups on DVD-R which work fine.
I have some TV series compilations on DVD which have 3 or 4 half-hour episodes. Using DVD Shrink to reauthor the disk, I can extract single episodes and create the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS file structure for each episode which will fit on a single CDR.
Using Nero, I made a CD ISO disk containing the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS directories for one of these single episodes.
This CDR disk plays fine with the WinDVD software player.
Will it work on a standalone player that supports miniDVD?

Why don't you give it a try. CDR's are only a quarter (20p for you Brits).
Most standalones don't but mayber yours does. What have you got to lose? -
You may want to go to www.area450.com this deals mainly with SAMPO dvd players and their clones, many of them could play miniDVD. I have an old Afreey that could, but I dont make miniDVDs now, theres no point and strangely enough my Afreey doesnt like playing DVD-Rs.

That looks fine to me. You are doing exactly the same process for a DVD, but putting it onto CDR. The only thing you need to watch is the bitrate. I doubt you will be able to get smooth playing on a standalone DVD player if it's encoded in anything grater than 6000kbps. The data transfer rate for CDs is not high enough. If it's a 30 min episode i guess it must be pretty low to fit onto a CDR.

using UDF file system
a CD burned with ISO uses the CDFS File System
You want to use the "UDF File System" 1.02
You will be fine in a COMPUTER no matter which, but UDF is supposedly required for MINI-DVD to play in a settop (and there's only 20 or so such players out there..a rare ability MINI DVD or cDVD as it used to be called) -
Thanks for all the tips.
I will burn test disks in UDF and try them out along with the ISO one at the local video store on the Toshiba SD4900 which is a player I am contemplating buying. This player supposedly supports miniDVD according to the report on this site.
The episodes are 24 minutes of B/W content which may account for the modest file size.
