After just a few burns I updated the v. 1.07 firmware that came with the burner to the official NEC v. 1.09. I don't remember what speeds were possible with 1.07 but now using either Nero or Roxio software the ONLY speed available is 2X. I'm actually interested in 1X (and other speeds too) because I've got some cheapo Starlogic (Princo, I think) disks that say 1X on the package. They seem to burn OK for maybe 3.5 gigs but evidently beyond that point the speed is too great and I've got a coaster. Is there a firmware fix or something else I can do?

The 1300A burns Princo 1x at 2x by default,it's normal. Upgrade to 1.0A and it will allow you to burn Princo 4x at 4x instead of 2x that it normally burns.
