  1. I would appreciate a suggested workflow to handle audio from AVI files to meg2 via TMPg 2.5 Plus. A guide I tried to follow suggests encoding AVI to M2G as an elementary video stream without audio and adding audio later during DVD authoring. Unfortunately, the guide didn't say how. How bad is the encoding option video plus audio, should this be track 1 or 2, and which audio option is best ? Pegasys support doesn't recommend it, but I have no tools to do other.

  2. I run my avi's thru TMPGEnc without first separating the audio all the time.... and use the MP2 option to aavoid the larger wav audio files. Audio bitrate gets set to 224 I get stereo as I capture in stereo.

then, I drop the mpg file into TMPGEnc DVD author to compile and burn.

Results are fine to my ears.. OTOH, I don't have a "home family theatre with exotic audio equipment"...

A good authoring program should accept the audio and video as separate streams. TMPGEnc DVD Author will. Look for a guide in the green Author section <-<-<-.

  4. I pesonally HATE the way audio sounds after TMPGEnc finishes my AVI to MPEG2. Although the alternative is pretty time consuming, I think the quality justifies the wait. Here's what I do (it's mostly freeware)... Hope this helps...

    1) Open Windows Movie Maker 2 (or Premiere)

    2) Capture via Firewire

    3) Edit in WMM2. Save as Avi.

    4) Convert Avi (Sony) into Avi (Canopus) using Canopus DV File Converter (b/c Virtuadub Mod doesn't recognize Sony Avi)

    5) Extract audio using Virtruadub Mod. Save as Wav.

    6) Convert Wav into AC3 using ffmpeggui

    7) Convert Avi (Canopus) into Mpeg2 using TMPGEnc

    8) Open TMPGEnc Author. Combine Mpeg2 and AC3 together. Author into vob file.

    9) Burn w/ Nero
