  1. I know, its easy (I've done it many times). But, when I used toast today to try and do it, it said that there was an error "there is a problem with the source material." error -18774. Does anyone know of any other way I could try to encode this? I have never had any problems with the files I get in mpg with encoding to VCD.

audio is probably hosed, or encoded
with a codec Toast doesn't understand.

use ffmpegx to resplit the file,
    then remake the audio,
or try my steps I listed in this post:
    https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=207179
and then have toast re-try again.

  3. what if i dont have QT Pro? Im basically confused how I convert it to .avi. What settings do I use? and under which tab? I now am using divx doctor to convert avis to VCD, so I have that down (actually, very speed and easy program).

  4. Ok, i am using FFmpeg right now to split the mpg. I used Tools -> Choose file (the file i have) and clicked demux. Is that the right way to do it? it appears to be splitting. So, when it is done, what is the next step? I do not have Quicktime Pro.

how do i "remake" the audio? I have an .mp2 file.

    just for kicks
    vcdtoolsx
load up the making image function, slect your muxed .mpeg file
    click VCD and then start

you will get a .bin/.cue which you can preview in VLC

just see if it works there
if so you can burn the .bin/.cue set with toast or MMB / FirestarterFX

Gonna be hard to do without QT Pro. You will need it to be able to
re-create the steps to re-mux the two halves of the file.
You could try ffmpegx to re-mux the two split halfs, once
    you fix the audio.

You will need an audio editing app, one that will accept the
audio as mp2. You could use mAC3dec or Amadeus II.
