    I wanted to know what is the best freeware for converting audio files into MP3 format without loosing quality.

    What you are asking is impossible. MP3 is a lossy format, Period. If you encode at higher bitrates it will sound closer to CD quality but you will never get 100% CD quality from a lossy compression alogrythm.

    However, try CDex with the lame encoder. It will produce very good results.

  3. I doubt if you could tell the diff between 320k mp3 and the original tho..this is the highest that most encoders seem to go to for some reason. I would have thought a 480k mode for true audiophiles would be an idea.
    Oh, and use vbr mode.. you will save the space and get the quality. I use EAC 320k vbr

  5. Go with CDex. It uses the LAME encoder (the best around) and its free!

  6. I am trying to install cDEX but as soon as I run the cdex exe it comes with system warning. any idea???

    A fatal error 0E has occured at 000....00000 application will be terminated.
    This happens when I click the cdex.exe
