I have a DVD with a scratch so I can't play it on my dvd-player.
My DVD-ROM does still read it OK so I want to make a
    copy to VCD.
Smartripper decrypts one vob file and then asks me to unlock the
next file. So I used cladDVD to rip the DVD.
Then dvd2avi to create the wav file and the project file for
TMPEGenc. With tmpegenc I make the 2 VCD disks.
The result is a disk with the sound not in synch with the video
(almost a second delay in the video) during the pre-movie
anouncements but NO sound in the main movie.
Where did I go wrong? How can I make a good backup of this
    DVD?
The DVD is Titan AE and my DVD-ROM is a Creative DVD
Encore Dxr2 but I use PowerDVD software playback.

    Regards,

    Marcel

with smartripper, i'd rip just the movie, then using dvd2avi, pick a spot in the middle of the movie and decode just 1 minute of several of the "DD 3/2" audio tracks, making sure you DO NOT select the "DTS" audio track. then, playback each of the 1 minute WAV files and select the track you want for your final dvd2avi project.

  3. Some DVDs contain single frames of pictures at the beginning that are used to contain background images for menu options when you are watching the movie or FBI warnings. These frames cause the audio and video to be out of sync. When using DVD2AVI, you will need to manually fast forward past these frames up to the point before the actual movie starts and then set that as a start point for the DVD2AVI conversion process. The sync problem will be solved.

oh, by the way, there are settings in smartripper that allow checking for the key only once, instead of for each vob, or each chapter, etc.

It's even easier than all of the above. After you rip, if you know which audio track you want select it in dvd2avi, then also under audio select DEMUX (not decode, or the all streams option) This will break out the delayed ac3 stream. Then in TMPG, when selecting this for your audio, choose show all files, so you can see it.
