  1. I have two AVI files (both in XviD) that I have converted to MPG2 (with TMPGEnc) and then encoded with IfoEdit (also tried TMPGEnc DVD Author to the same effect). When I burn it to DVD-R the end result is a very "squished" picture. That is, the image is fullscreen on my TV but everything is squished together horizontally.

IfoEdit tells me they are at 16:9 (which is how I converted them) and they play fine in WinDVD. I'm burning them with Nero 6... Is there something I missed that isn't telling my DVD player to play them at widescreen?

I had this problem when trying to convert the WideScreen AVI to dvd. In TMPGEnc, load the Video and Audio file (don't use Wizard).

In TMPGEnc go to Settings --> Advanced and under Video arrange method choose the one U want. Or use the Source aspect ratio.

I get the best results selecting "Full Screen Keep Aspect Ratio"

Please post after you have tried if this worked for you.

    Good Luck..

It feels nice that my first post is to help someone.. glad I know little bit.

I used that on both videos, but to no avail... I'll try a few other options, but the thing that is confusing is that in IfoEdit and WinDVD it is widescreen, but gets squished down when viewing it on my standalone player.

Edit Just put the disc into my computer and played it through WinDVD. It plays in widescreen, but still comes out squished on my standalone...

  4. Alright, I haphazzardly fixed the problem... I set my standalone player to 4:3 aspect ratio manually (it was on 16:9, dispite the fact it is a normal 36" TV). Once I had to switch it back to PCM audio. My question now: Should the DVD itself change these settings? It seems as if other DVDs are doing so since it was on PCM and then changed when I played a different movie.
