  1. my pc crashes everytime i try to open up Winfast PVR. i can start up Winfast FM just fine and listen to the radio, but it would also crash whenever i try to record something. i tried everything from installing the drivers manually from the cd to downloading the newest drivers from the website and then installing those. i even took out the tuner from the motherboard and reinstalled it, but nothing seems to work. i'm running on a:

    P4 1.8Ghz ECS P4S5A2
    512mb DDR Ram
    ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb
    80gig hd
    Sound Blaster 16-bit PCI card

i've heard nothing but good things about this tv tuner and so far i've been very disappointed with the problems with installation. if someone could help me out it'd be much appreciated.

  2. not sure, I have the exact same card with almost the same specs, minus that horrid looking 16bit sound blaster? maybe that is causing your troubles?

It sounds like a driver issue to me or a software error with XP hard to track down without error logs etc (eventvwr etc)

  3. not sure if this would help:

Faulting application wftv.exe, version 3.0.9.33, faulting module ole32.dll, version 5.1.2600.1263, fault address 0x0001213e.

I had that problem. Never found out what was wrong. Now I go from VCR to DV camcorder thru firewire and capture with POWERVCR. It's much better too.

  5. tys2cret -

try downloading latest drivers and pvr from leadtek site again.

Noticed that your fault report mentioned wftv.exe, vers 3.0.9.33 ....

    Mine is version 3.0.9.40.

Also pay close attention to to leadtek's procedure for sequence of upgrade activity which I think says upgrade 4 drivers first before upgrading pvr app... details are on the download page.

  7. The "Crash when recording" bug was fixed in WinFast FM 1.59.

  8. " i tried everything from installing the drivers manually from the cd to downloading the newest drivers from the website"
-> This is a WinFast FM application bug, nothing to do with the drivers.

  9. this sucks. i just installed the newest PVR and i'm still getting the same error:

Faulting application wftv.exe, version 3.0.9.40, faulting module ole32.dll, version 5.1.2600.1263, fault address 0x0001213e.

    what is the deal here?

  10. Two possibilities:
First, I got what sounds like the same error when I tried installing my LeadTek WinFast TV2000 card. I amde the fatal mistake of reading the instructions (always a bad idea) and let the installer program do its thing. Bad mistake.
In my case, it munged by hard disk so badly I had to reformat and re-install Windows.
The second time, I clicked NO and shut off the WinFast installer program. Then I let the built-in Windows Hardware Detection Wizard come up and allowed it to do its thing. That worked fine. So my WinFast TV2000 card now works perfectly, but the install is a bitch and a half. You just *cannot* let the built-in WinFast installer program run, it'll trash everything. Use the Windows Hardware Wizard instead. It may require you to poke around on the WindFast software CD to find the drivers, but at least that way the install works.
    Second possibility:
Some folks report catastrophic problems with VIA chipsets. If you have a VIA chipset, you may be hosed. Check and see. If you have a cheaper Athlon, your chipset is probably VIA. I run a P4 and didn't have that problem.

I had the opposite experience. The hardware is definitely more noisy than the ASUS card that I also have installed in my computer. I have video noise in the picture, and audio noise on the FM radio - both are very noticable in the Leadtek and totally absent in the ASUS. The software works, but sometimes crashes. Mine crashes anytime I try to encode the sound with the MP3 codec. I assume this is because I do not have enough CPU power to perform the MP3 encoding in live time. I use PCM, or simply choose "none" in the audio processing field. You will get a real large wav file that you later can convert to mp3.

I also had trouble getting my system to recognize the new drivers provided by leadtek as drivers. I posted another thread last week where I described how to trick the installation CD into loading the new drivers. Make sure you have the new ones installed if you use the new application.
