I already have .vob, .ifo, .bup files ready to go that are only 141 MB and it would be a waste to burn it on a DVD-R so I would like to know how to burn/copy to a CD-R that would read on a standalone DVD player. Does it require a special conversion or a burn method?

  2. Your DVD player has to support it. Check the listings for dvd players and see if your player plays MiniDVD.

What burning program do you use?

I use Nero 6. So it wouldn't work if I just copy the vob files to a CD-R? I thought DVD players can read vob files but only from DVD-R's? Why?

Mini DVD aslo refers to 8cm business card blanks

But what you wanna make is a cDVD
this will only play on a scant few settop...
but will play in a COMPUTER*
the trick is to use UDF file format on a CD , not CDFS

then if the settop can play it.from a CD surface, it will

Nero will allow a UDF burn to cd media (unlike easy cd creator)

*if the computer is a MAC it'll tell you your cDVD is a dirty DVD..so load the files on the DVD into the player instead of trying to auto play

  5. MiniDVD is exactly what your looking for. DVD structure (Vob's, ifo, bup) on a CDR. Your player could play VCD's and still play MiniDVD. You have to look it up here https://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers.

Nero should be able to record those files on a CDR just like you do when you burn a DVD. Except you select CDR instead of DVD. So if your player supports MiniDVD, it will work.

miniDVD and cDVD are 2 different things? I don't want to play it on a computer but just on a standalone DVD player so I guess cDVD is not what I am looking for?

I just used the miniDVD option in Nero and burned the .vob files and inserted it on the standalone dvd player but the screen said "Data Error" "No Audio Found" and wouldn't play. Did I do something wrong or my dvd player just doesn't support miniDVDs, if so, what other options would I have?

  8. Namie,
Here is the deifinition - miniDVD
miniDVD is a DVD video written onto a CD-R(W) instead of a DVD disc. miniDVD is also sometimes called cDVD. A miniDVD only fits about 15 minutes of DVD quality video on a 650 MB CD-R(W). Not many DVD players will play miniDVD - see the DVD Players miniDVD list for compatible players. DVDRhelp.com miniDVD page

Your only other choice would be a DVD- or + RW.

Okay, thanks for clearing that up.

Is there any way to fool the dvd players to think the CD-R is a DVD-R instead? I saw this result on google but the link was unfortunately dead.

Okay, I guess I'll just convert the vob file to VCD then since my standalone dvd player supports that. I know there are a lot of guides to converting but what would be the best way(settings or program) without losing dramatic quality? I do have TMPGEnc.

Since you have it, use it and start with the wizard. If that's not good enough for you then do a search for best tmpgenc settings. I remember seeing one somewhere someplace.

If your player supports it, use SVCD instead of VCD.
