    What if ?
    A) What if you won the lottery, put up the money, picked the winning numbers but had a coworker pick them up for you in another state while attending a business meeting in a car that the company rented, and paid for the fuel ? Do you feel that the person who purchased the tickets on your behalf should recieve any of the winnings ? If so, how much, percentage wise ?

    B) What if you won the lottery, put up the money, and your co worker picked the winning number and picked up the tickets up for you in another state while attending a business meeting in a car that the company rented, and paid for the fuel ? Do you feel that the person who purchased the tickets on your behalf and also picked the winning numbers should recieve any of the winnings ? If so, how much, percentage wise ?

C)What if you and a coworker decided to share the winnings of a lottery ?
He puts the money up for twenty tickets for one drawing and you put up the money for five tickets for ten consecutive drawings ? Would your obligation to share be for a single drawing ? Split four to one ?

    D) What if you won the lottery ?
Coffee makes you happy.....Except when it messes you up

If I have the winning lottery ticket in my hand the whole world can kiss my ass and I don't care what anybody thinks they are entitled to! :P

  4. If I won the lottery, I'd build my mates and myself a great house just off campus as opposed to the tiny box we're going to next year. I'd buy a Lister Storm V12, and probably spend the rest on insurance!

I'd also be building myself a nice new PC, and get (an even better) G5!

  5. a) I'd give the person probably 10% depending on the amount.

    b) I'd split the win 50/50.

    c) No idea.

    d) Depending on the amount, invest it in a bank and live off the interest. $1 million at 6% is $60,000 a year, if the money is more it just gets better.

  6. I could never have that kind of self control. If I get money, I'll spend it and have a damned good time!

You're probably right, it'd be sensible to invest it. The average win in the UK is about £6m I think (rough guess) so I'd probably invest £2m and spunk the rest on tiny shiny gadgets, big cars and women! Once I get old, I'll cream off what's in the bank.

Having said that, I don't play the lottery! I have played three times, twice won nothing and once got four numbers and won £50. Haven't played since.

If I won the lottery, depending on how much it was, I'd buy a house for me and Evonne, pay off my parent's house, buy my brother a house, completely renovate my church, and give most away to charity.

I hope you never win then. That's almost as bad as those retards who go back to work on a Monday after winning £10 mil on Saturday.

some of us enjoy our jobs and would go back to work (or own some of the company and would look strange to just quit) ..

if you are in a lottery pool - you always clearly outline the ''rules" of the group (even if its two people) ... in canada lotteries -- they have a great form for this ..

you also make photocopies of the purchased tickets and give them to the other people ..

Probably 25% or so would go to my church and to various charities.

Of course I'd keep enough to buy Evonne a Cooper Mini and me a Morgan Aero 8 or a Panoz Roadster.

The main thing is that I don't want to be rich, ever. I want enough to be comfortable, but not rich. I hate money too much to have tons of it.

Fair enough - don't like cars myself but they are a necessary evil.

I expect alot of people think like that - those without cash. Trust me if you ever win your idea of what is rich and what is confortable will soon change. There is nothing wrong with money per se ; but the way its used to control the world and the people in it is evil.

Then again you are a Mac user so maybe you see things a little differently than the rest of us

Personally I see the lottery as a tax on stupidity.

Opps. I typed that wrong. I wanted to say I'd only keep 25% and I'd give 75% away. Typo

casino's (and they want to build more here) are the REAL tax on stupidity

playing 1 or 2$ a week in lottery is not a huge thing --- playing 100$ a week or more in slots (or whatever) sure is.... (ok ONCE in a great while is kind of intertaining maybe) ...

that is sure a re-distro. of money -- money that is NOT spent in local stores or home upgrades or your family or whatever -- things that give back to a community/family directly.

Ok I give up - do I have to re-arrange these words or something for it to make sense ?

This sounds about what I would do. Depending on the earnings, I might give the co-worker a little more in case (a) to make sure he didn't feel a need to mug me when he got back and keep all the loot. And if I won, I'd take care of the Mortgage and Truck payments , finally break down and and invest the rest in an account that I have limited access of, because there is enough junk out there and I am a big enough gadget freak that it would be spent in no time, mostly on switching from PC to Mac. ("Hey! Check out my 56" Plasma screen I got for the second monitor output of my old Gatewy laptop, and while you're at it, the G5 in the Den, the G5 in the Kithen, and the Powerbooks in each of the bathrooms")

    Call me semi-retarded then.

I'm 32 and drawing money from an account that will keep me reasonably comfortable until I'm 97. That hasn't kept me from working the last 5 years. Sometimes people need more than money to appreciate life.

It didn't change for me. I invested practically every dime I earned for a long time and lived a very simple life. Well I'm enjoying the fruits of those dividens now, but I'm still living a simple life.

Money is the purest incarnation of evil. No argument there, VCD.

    I totally agree.

As for what I'd do in the case of the co-worker? I'm not that lazy! If I'm gonna play the lottery in New York, I'll fly my ass out there, wine and dine the wife, and buy the ticket myself!

I was asked in a meeting "If you won the lottery Saturday would you be in on Monday ?" I replied "No you wouldn't see my arse for dust. In fact if I won lunchtime I wouldn't come back for the afternoon." I have far too much going on to want to go to work.

If you can't find something better to do with your time I pity you. I'll not call you retarded though . . . . yet

    Don't.

Come, on! I only work 4 hours a day! That still leaves me 14 hours to do all sorts of things! Who needs more than six hours of sleep at night? I don't.

But hey, if that's your gameplan, more power to you. To each his own. I am certainly not the person to judge.

  23. Maybe you should spend the money on a new wardrobe. That prom photo is so 1961.

I probably should push VCD over the edge: I'd give almost all of it away to charity. But I'd damned sure do what Mrs. McDonalds did and document what they couldn't spend the money on.

Now, who would I give the money to? Hmmm...

    Definitely the Humane Society.

  24. Whilst initially giving away a large portion to charity may sound like a good idea it's a better idea to invest the amount into a high interest account then donate money from the interest.

An example would be if you won $30 million dollars, invested at 6% (conservative rate for that amount), that would produce close to $2 million dollars every year, with no risk, that you could donate from.

I'll do on (d), this is to live on the lottery win. On $1 million, the interest income at the moment is set at 5% and this equals $50,000 a year.

I'll never work again and just remember to pay income tax.
