    I want to create an image from a video file- like pause it and capture an image from it. . . any programs/ideas ?

    Virtual Dub mod. Load the video, move to the frame you wish to capture, select Video-->copy source frame to clipboard.

    I do it the same way but I've always been curious if there is a better way?

    I did some captures from a DVD once with WinDVD and it resized it from Full D1 720x480 to 640x480 so go figure. Since that "test" I've stuck with VirtualDubMod
