    Hi all
just bought a Sony DRU510A and testing it's capabilities for backing up my small collection. ripped a film to hard disk using DVD Decripter 3.1.9.0, then used DVD shrink 3.1.4 to fit it on a DVD+RW. burned this using Nero 5.5.7.1 via an image file. (.NRG). it plays perfectly on PC but not on my standalone. (error message comes up saying that disc is dirty, when it is perfectly brand new). These discs play on on Player as i ripped a couple of clips using SONIC MYDVD on it . but this takes too long.

I have also burned this on a DVD+R and same thing happens. i know my player accepts these discs as I have used friends DVD+R to test it.
Any ideas on what i am doing wrong and is there an easier way to burn these.
    Help appreciated.

When converting DVD-9 to -5, I use DVD Shrink only...You do not have to use DVD Decrypter and then DVD Shrink. I run -R media for movie copies using CloneDVD S/W and never a coaster on my TDK 880n.

  3. Hi,

Nero might be the problem also. Some people have reported problems with earlier versions of Nero - by earlier, I mean anything older than Nero 6. One of the problems is exactly what you stated - it works on the PC but not on the DVD player.

You may want to try downloading the demo for Nero 6 and see if that fixes the problem.

RecordNow is also a reliable piece of burning software.

I've used both Nero 6 and RecordNow and have had no problems whatsoever.

    Hi,

I suspect half your problem is the image you are burning.

DO NOT burn an NRG image use ISO.

My full process for any DVD, is

Original DVD ---> DVD Shrink ----> VOB, IFO & BUP files
    then
Nero to create an ISO image file
    then
DVD Decrypter to burn to DVD

    this has worked everytime.

I have concise instruciton if you would like them..

When specifying filename that Nero is creating there is drop down box for saving as file type. Here choose ISO not NRG.

If you can give me your email address ill happily send you the instructions.
(send me a private message with it in if you not happy displaying it for all to see)

before any one asks these instructions arnt of guide quality, but get me thru the process......

  9. You already have DVDDecrypter and DVDShrink, all you need is AUTOShrinkISO to automate the burn process. Total freeware solution, totally compliant burns. Just setup program paths (only have to do it once), open disc and shrink as usual, click backup, you're done. An ISO image will be automatically generated and then burned by DVDDecrypter. You asked for an easier burn process, this is one.

Nothing particularly wrong using proprietary software, but if you've read enough forum posts, novices with burning problems are numerous. Some progs are touchy with their settings. And I'll just bet the problem is your burning process.

    Get it here http://www.mrbass.org/dvdshrink/autoshrinkiso/

Thanks for your guidane on AUTOSHRINK ISO.
i have downloaded and tried it. it rips the files from DVD Shrink to the hard disk and waited for the image to create. a message on AUTO SHRINK program stated 'Transcoding with DVD Shrink.......' this was on there for 1 and half hours. does this normally take this long. did i do something wrong. it just seemed to freeze. i gave up and the end. the files are on the HD but when i open a VOB file PowerDVD does not play the file.

    Any Sugessyions.

I have also tried the NERO method that ZWORG" stated but drop down only states that i can create an NRG file.

Hmm....not sure what is going on then...
it maybe your version of Nero, but i doubt it.
It maybe you trying the wrong box, but i doubt that as well
The only thing i can think of is that you are not using Nero properly.

This may not be worth pursuing, lots of people do not think very highly of Nero.

However you ahve had my instructions, which with some thought, can easily be applied to any DVD copying. If you do pursue it, please provide feedback

Thanks for the instructions by the way. very useful and handy. anything i find out , i will let you know....one thing i forgot to mention was that if i continue to use NERO to create a image, will any burning software be able burn this to DVD R. or will my NERO version not play on any standalone player, full stop..

If you create it as .NRG then no i dont think anything else can use it and i wouldnt continue.

If you can work out how to create the .ISO, then any burning software should be able to recognise it.

Hmmm, just now got back to this thread. You shouldn't be having all these problems. (If you're operating under WIN98, you have to select "split image" in Autoshrink, BTW).

Suggestions? Okay, but first how about filling in some details on your system. I wonder if it's entirely stable. Do you have enough hard drive space? Anyway, start at the beginning:

    1) Get rid of junk, including never-used programs, documents, I presume you exercise some control over cookies/spyware also(?). Delete the DVDShrink folder and uninstall AUTOShrinkISO and DVDDecrypter. Reboot, defrag your hard drive(s), reboot.

    2) Reinstall DVDShrink, reinstall DVDDecrypter and AUTOShrinkISO. Go to the autoshrink website and be very sure you set it up correctly. You must locate the .exe files for DVDShrink and DVDDecrypter, if AUTOShrinkISO isn't pointed to these programs correctly, it won't work. This is done under "program paths". Reboot.

    3) Shut down everything possible that runs in the background, such as antivirus, firewall, etc. Try the procedure again.

Please fill in some details, people will find it easier to help you. While the suggestions others have given are valid, I think you ought to try the above method again, as there shouldn't be any way to screw it up.

    Mukeshs,

You versionof Nero (5.5.7.1) is buggy when it comes to burning DVD-Video.

They fixed this from 5.5.10.23 if memory serves me right. I currently use 5.5.10.42 without any problems. Also, the early versions of Nero 6 were also buggy from what I've read.
