  1. I am getting a Philips DVD727 next week and am wondering about something. It says it will play VCD, SVCD 1.X and 2.0 version on each. I also read somewhere that it will play mpeg data cds. Does that mean if i want to record at higher that vcd but not in the format of svcd ( not 480-480, or also some of the higher audio and motion things ) it will play. If not can someone explain this.

  2. what it means i think is it will paly mpegs off the disc, mine (crown dvd 550) will play mpegs off a cd with no (s)vcd) formatting ie the folders etc, so its just the raw mpeg on a cd, burned as a data disc, its played everything ive thrown at it, with some files being nowhere near the normal standard compliance needed for svcdso technicaly theyd prob be xvcd's if i authored them as vcds, but the reason i dont do this very often is if i want to share the cds with family or friends they may not be able to use them on theyre players,

  5. That's what i was hoping. 2 more things, if i record in a widescreen 480x240 will it play as a raw cd like you said? Also how do i get the audio setting right, now i have them set for the best sound on my computer, but will they sound the same on tv (not sound but volume, i dont want o turn the volume all the way up and then go back to my tv cable signal and have ear splitting sound.

  6. most of the time ive done this was with mpeg's i downloaded, and never bothered to check the bit rates, just put them on a cdrw to watch and bin cuz i was to lazy to try and author properly, but ive never had a problem, ie it played as it would on a pc, now when i saw it played ne thing, i mean with in reason,(the bit rate wasnt 10000 for example) ive even tested it using a single .vob file off a dvd that was small enough for a cd, but i coulnd fast forward it i played though, not that it was very usful to know that had to much time on my hands i guess lol
