why not just put it in a external firewire case ...
but pioneer and plextor make good units ..."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -

I'd get a USB 2.0 external case myself since more computers has USB 2.0 then firewire. Then put a NEC or Nutech 8x in it. Total cost with case should be under $150.

If you want to put a regular DVD drive in an external case, do yourself a favor and get a combo Firewire/USB2 case. USB2 doesn't always work properly, Firewire almost always does. Firewire cards are cheap. This gives you more options and installing a DVD in a external case is easy and usually cheaper than a dedicated USB/Firewire DVD drive. If you don't like your present drive, check the DVD writers to the left. I personally like Pioneer.
