I am trying to capture a 30 min. DV from my Sony DV camera to a file (mpeg) with my Ulead MovieFactory2se software.
I am having problems with the audio getting out of sink by the end of the capture.
It seem like it is getting left behing a second or 2 after about 20 minutes of capture.
I am using the Ulead mpeg driver for video and the regular audio.I just have a check box for the audio option to capture or not.
Any ideas what I should to get my video and audio to match?
    Thanks
    Brad

    What does this mean?

I use MF to do capture, also, with no problems. Are you using Firewire input or something else?

The codec in Ulead is "Ulead (DSW) Direct Show MPEG capture plugin".
The frame rate is set at 29.970.
I am using my fire wire for Sony and a new Dell laptop with
    1.8 mhz with a 30 gig hd.

  4. I use a lot Ulead products....without any problem.
Just try to capture as AVI, then encode it as MPG. It's a lot safer to play with the avi files....
And something else, 30G is way to small for these kind of projects. You need at least 80.

  5. Your processor seems fast enough (1.8ghz).

Some possibilities to check are as follows:

    - disable any screensavers;

    - disable any anti-virus programs;

    - press CONTROL-ALT-DELETE (WINDOWS XP).

After the WINDOWS TASK MANAGER pop-up appears, click the PROCESSES tab and close down all unnecessary PROCESSES that might be running in the background.

I've personally never run into the issue you describe.

Usually, it's best to capture and edit in DV .avi file format because less compression is applied to your content during the editing process.

    That's what I use, but on a 3Ghz CPU.

Are you sure you're not maxing out your processor? What audio format/bitrate?

I am trying to do this at work and then download it at home.
I think you might be right about maxing out my computer. It did seem like it was really grinding away.
I have been able to capture to avi with no problem.
    I will do that.
I was just curious why if the program was able to capture and convert the whole tape even if it was working too hard, why the sound might be a little out of sync.
About the sound am not sure.It just has a check box to enable.
I think it is uncompressed though.

I have followed most of the advice from this question.
I have reevaluated my proble and I realized that the sound was actually a second ahead of the video after capturing for awhile not behind.
    Any ideas why?

  9. i use ulead video studio 7 but i bet the front end capture is similar. when
you capture in mpeg2, my program seems to need to flush it's
transcode buffer every 10-12 mins. the vendor claims that
the program will stop the camcoder when this is done since the program
can't process the dv input when it is flushing. but stopping the dv stream
may mess up a frame or 2 and after awhile, lead to noticeable desyncing.
note that when storing dv as avi, there is no transcode buffer to flush.

in general, at least in VS7, the capture front end does not seem to
have much error checking/correcting. i have found scenalyzer to have
a more robust capture function. it keeps the audio in sync and does filtering
    to reduce audio noise.

Did you check the CPU utilization while capturing?

Is the video out of synch on the file or on a DVD after authoring?

  11. my video is out of synch on the mpeg hard disk file.

i did not specifically check cpu load BUT i did try to encode from 5kbps
to 8 kbps for the identical clip with almost exactly the same time
    when the flushing started.

since posting earlier, i checked operation with my camcorder. the
flushing did start at 9 mins and stop the camera BUT the startup
resulted in a few jumpy frames that could build up a noticeble
desync over time. as i have found, any disturbance in the DV stream
can mess up the sync in VS7, no matter what format you capture in.

if you ran the camera for 20', did you ever see this flushing operation?
as lenti_75 said, capturing in avi format is more reliable.
