I am trying to burn the highest % compatible DVDs. PCM-WAV audio uses up too much space. MPEG audio is not 100% compatible. The AC3 audio from Besweet is said to not be fully compatible. TMPG Author with AC3 needs to have my computer on the internet for continuos vavlidation and I am off the grid at home and no phone line. So, what is an affordable way to make 100% compatible AC3 files? I wish there was a page on the net that listed how people are burning with what softwares and the compatability of various solutions and level of expertise. I have tried Roxio--lousy, TMPG Author--a little clunky but not enough variables and choices, TMPGplus encoding--EXCELENT, DVDit--low compatability, and am trying DVD-lab--promising but I want more choices.

DVDit defaults to Joliet ISO9660... I am wondering if this is causing some of my compatability problems? Is UDF the only way to burn? Sorry, I have not learned these issues yet.

Is a fail safe way to burn just burning the DVD volume, or is burning ISO images better?

Thanks to all for you help.

  2. Ulead's new Disc Creator 3 product does AC3 for $99 ($69 as an upgrade).

  3. FFMPEGUI to convert PCM-WAV to AC3

Works for me! BeSweet sucks and have removed it from their current release. This is the only freeware one I know of!

  4. Leave it to Dolby to corner the market. Since MPG2 isn't a standard in the NTSC market, you're left with AC3 (which to do properly, you have to buy a program which has to pay licencing fees to Dolby) or use uncompressed PCM audio.

I use ffmpggui and haven't had any problems. Since I have no intentions of buying a Pioneer player, and every other player i've tried plays then fine, i'm not too worried about compatability.

Are you sure? I'm looking at this: http://www.ulead.com/dmf/compare.htm

    In the "capture/import/encode" section.
