    Hi there.

Here is my small task. I have a movie clip that is mainly in English, but there are about 5 sentences throughout the entire movie where the language spoken isn't English, it's Russian. Now, I know how to translate the Russian into English, but I DON'T know how to insert my own custom, intentionally sporadic subtitles. The software I am familiar with using is:

    TMPGEnc Plus
    DVD-lab
    Ulead DVD Moviefactory 2 & 3 (*grumbling*)
    Limited VirtualDub experience
    Adobe Audition 1.0

Now, I am willing to learn new software for this particilar task, so please help me out here. Any help at all will be appreciated.

Thank you, and hope to hear from you all soon.

There's a guide around here somewhere for using VirtualDub to add subtitles with SSA but I'm too lazy to search the place for you at the moment.

  4. Take a look at Editstudio

    www.puremotion.com

It has complete subtitling functions. For only five sentences I would simply add the subtitles (visible) along the timeline.

I am sure there is a way to do it with virtualdub but it is probably too difficult. DVDlab does not support subtitles so you need to get a basic video editing program where you can add text to the timeline. I tried ulead videostudio but it does not let you write foreign languages. If you need to only insert english it would probably work. Otherwise ulead mediastudio or adobe premiere will let you do this. I am not sure about the other sub $100 programs but I am sure most at least support english text.

I've been playing around making clips & adding subtitles with an AVISynth script and they all seem work with DVDLab just fine.

  7. Sub Station Alpha is your best bet...look around for the guide on making the subtitles. Once you've made your subs in SSA, you'll have to import them into VDub...THEN frameserve to TMPGEnc to do your encoding.

Since it's still a movie clip, why don't you just use a video editing program and put an overlay title on those sections of video?
