Hi,
I am backing up my collection of DVD's to DVD-R. Most will fit on one disc (with compression obviously) but some need to be split to 2 discs, which is fine. The problem with the 2 disc split is that I like to keep the menus and so if i split the dvd... there is only a menu on the first dvd and none on the second.
My solution to this was to simply rip the dvd with movie only and create my own menus for the dvd's. However, i have no idea how to do this!!!
Basically, this is the position i am in (i will use the movie Titanic as an example):
1. Ripped Titanic to HDD (movie only).
2. Split the movie into 2 compatible DVD discs.
Now i want to create a menu on the first disc (allowing chapter acces) and i want to create a seperate menu for the second disc (with the remaining chapters accessed.)
Please tell me any recommended software and details of tutorials.
Is it possible to simply create menus and then link them to an existing DVD movie or does the movie need to be in mpeg/avi format...
Thank for any help.

Get DVDLab. Import first movie, make menus, chapters, etc. Compile DVD.
Import second movie, repleace movie 1 with the second part, delete the chapters menu, redo chapters, compile DVD.
If you do this without closing dvdlab, you get the same main menu on both, with the different chapters menus.Cheers, Jim

https://www.videohelp.com/guides.php?guideid=248#248 ... I've used this guide and Ifoedit a couple of years ago to split a number of DVD9's to two DVD-Rs. The method shown in the guide put the menu on both discs. Also, all extras are save, either on the 1st or 2nd disc.
The method is fairly straight forward, but it's biggest plus is that it uses all freeware tools. You don't need to shell out $100 for DVDLab.
