  1. Hi,

I'm trying to convert a DVD into a Quicktime .mov file that can then be loaded onto my Palm Tungsten via Kinoma Producer.

Here are the steps I've done so far:

    1. Ripped .vob to .mv2 and .ac3 using OSeX
    2. Converted .ac3 to .aiff using mAC3dec
    3. Converted .mv2 to .mov using Diva (DV/DVCPRO - NTSC setting)
    4. Muxed .aiff & .mov in QuickTime Pro (add scaled video to audio)
    5. Saved as self-contained file.

I can play and hear the .aiff file; I can play and see the .mov file, but the problem is that when I play the muxed, self-contained .mov file I get no video, only audio. The screen basically remains black.

    Please help, O Mac Gurus!

    Thanks in advance,
    Reeve

Go back and do the following steps. You will need to get
a copy of the 3ivx codec first, from http://www.3ivx.com

    1. Ripped .vob to .mv2 and .ac3 to seperate streams in OSeX
    2. Convert your .ac3 to .aiff using mAC3dec ( 44.1 khz, stero, 2 channel, uncompressed)
    3. Convert your .mv2 to .avi using Diva (3ivx D4.5 setting, Best, Average Bitrate, 29fps)
    4. Open AVI file in QT Pro. Play to verify quality.
    5. Open AIFF into QT Pro. Play to verify quality.
    6. Select all of AVI file. Copy, Close file
    7. Select all of Audio. Add Scaled video to Audio.
    8. Play file to verify everything is intact.
    9. Save file as self contained movie file.
    10. Close, then Re-open and play self contained movie file.

These steps have always worked for me using DIVA.
The only thing I can think of is you went DV/DVCPRO,
which I couldn't understand why? Sure You would get the least
compressed file, but unless you bring natively in as DV,
usually trying to go from one format compressed such as mv2
to DV, especially when you just want to get to .mov anyway,
is like the long way around. the 3ivx D4.5 codec is pretty good,
    try it out.

  3. Thanks terryj,

    Your solution worked perfectly!

I read another thread on this forum that said the 3ivx step could be bypassed altogether using the DV/DVCPRO codec. The file was monsterously huge and gave me the problems I listed in my original post. Your solution was much better and kept the file size a lot smaller.

    Thanks again!

    Best regards,
