I bought te full retail edition of Nero 6 and have used Nero VisionExpress a few times. I have noticed though, that it appears to be quite unstable. Several times after spenign hours transcoding an AVI file to DVD format, the program just crashes. No error messages come up, the program just dissapears. Anyone else experienced this? I have patched to the latest versions, and on the AVI -> DVD conversions that I have done, I am pleased with the results. I just wish that the bloody program wouldn't crash when I leave it on over night

  2. I had the same problem and came to find out that it was a corrupt avi file that was crashing it. I ran it through VirtualDub and it ran fine afterwards.

What I did was use the TV out of my video card to my VCR and when I set it encoding before bed, I used my VCR to record to encoding process while I sleep. Next morning I wake up to a crashed Nerovision, played back the tape and found which file it was crashing on.

It's a bit elaborate to find out why Nerovision is crashing, but it's worth it when some of your encoding jobs take 8-12 hours.

  3. One thing I forgot to mention, you need to make sure that your TV out settings for the video overlay are not set to fullscreen, otherwise all you'll capture is the video preview of what's currently encoding.

That's some serious fu**ing determination to get to the root of your problem, my friend. I tip my hat to you, sir!

The advice to check the avi for corruption is very good. I think you should also look into using a dedicated mpeg encoder like TMPGEnc for these types of conversions. The quality of your DVD mpeg will be better than the Nero conversion for sure.

It was better than watching my screen for 10 hours!
