    well i have heard that asf takes very less space
    as compared to mpg or .dat files
    so pls tell me some tool to
    convert .dat files from vcd into asf .

    you can use virtualdub or windows media encoder, convert first the dat to mpg http://www.vcdhelp.com/convertdat.htm
    and then http://www.vcdhelp.com/toasf/index.htm
