  1. I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good standalone dvd player that will also play divx and xvid movies on burned media; without having to run them through a network or do any authoring. I looked at the list given in this forum and there are simply too many players to read through. I was hoping to spend around $100. If anyone could suggest a player and an online dealer it would be greatly appreciated.

  2. Where do you live? If in the U.S., you are out of luck because 95% of these are only for sale in Europe. Your best bet is Polaroid 0600 from www.bestbuy.com which is 99$. Everyting else sold in the U.S. is more expensive

  3. Is there any indication that the Polaroid will play Xvid? I thought someone mentioned that this model couldn't play Divx 3.1?

The LiteOn LVD-2002 does great on DivX 4 & 5 files and XviD files. I've been told it has problems with DivX 3 files, but I don't have any of those so don't care. It's easy to kill the MacroVision and Region Coding on this unit, too.

  5. Scan Ellion 520C DVX in UK from scan.co.uk, once I'd updated the firmware it works a treat.

  6. LiteOn LVD-2002 is your best bet. Plays pretty much everything: XviD, DivX3,4,5, DVD, SVCD, etc... Sometimes (rarely) has problems with high bitrates, so once in a while you may have to recode a movie into DivX5 or XviD. Froze up on DivX3 movies a few times, but mostly plays those just fine. Definitely a good choice, but a bit more than $100.
