  1. Kenny G was very big in the '80s. He played a soprano sax and was very good at it. His songs all had a sax riff in the middle. They played his songs alot in elevators. I think his soprano sax matches the resonant frequency of my spine because I can't listen to his songs without experiencing pain I don't know what it is ...maybe like fingernails on a blackboard, but I have to leave the room when one of his songs comes on.
    Indolikaa,
Have you heard anything by George Benson? You might like his stuff. I have a few of his albums.

  2. Any jazz worth note was recorded from the turn of the century to the mid-70's. After that it became fusion, funk, pop-soul shite! That's my unsolicited amatuer opinion... Were there any justice in this universe Kenny G. like Michael Bolton should be in an elevator to hell rather than being rich on fame & royalties while the likes of J. Coltrane and T. Monk died penniless and uncelebrated. ...but that's just me!

True, true. It's particularly disturbing to go into a big record store and see rack after rack of Britney Spears or Cheryl Crow, yet I have to make it an hour-long quest to even find any Oscar Peterson, Mahalia Jackson or Jelly Roll Morton, if I can even find them. :P I've almost given up on trying to find jazz here in Albuquerque. When I lived in Chicago it was no problem.

  4. Hey Kevin! What I usually do is once I've settled on a label, [an easy thing with an old form like jazz - e.g. blue note, impulse,...] I just order online. With a little surfin', you can find some nice exclusive prints. I've been collecting these sweet mamas since they starting releasing in '96!

These bad boys are re-mastered from the original master tapes in 24-bit. Rudy was not only one hell of an engineer but was very meticulous about carefully storing his masters. That's one thing about jazz is there was some hot shit recorded back in the day - but due to poor storage/handling - a brother just has no good prints to be found.

Look him up in the riaa.com database. I couldn't believe how many platinum awards he's won. His Acropolis video has been certified platinum ten times! I'd not thought there were that many people in the world who liked his music.

He's similar to Vangelis (Chariots of Fire) and Kitaro.

KLSK used to be New Age and Jazz, but that was a long time ago. KUNM still does jazz, methinks.

Heard of him, not sure I've heard his music or would know it was his. We play the jazz channels on DirecTV also but I rarely check to match the song with the artist.

  10. Indolikaa,
No doubt Yanni has his share of fans. Everyone's got their own taste in music.

KUNM plays jazz sometimes but it's usually limited to certain hours. I've never listened to KLSK. Besides, I don't listen to the radio much now that I have a car with a CD player I can always find almost any jazz I need on the web so it's no problem. Too bad I don't like salsa because there's loads of it here in town

  11. You need XM Satellite Radio. Or Sirius. That'll take care of your music fixes. A VERY nice addition to a CD player, I must say!

  13. Russ,
That's great. Not many 23-year-olds in a house at all, much less with a chunk of equity already
