I have now purchased an external enclosure for my laptop. Installed a dvrw drive into it computer recognises it all good so far, but then when i open nero 5.5.9.0. i get this msg
"under window nt adminerstrator rights are required by nero to access cd recorders and cd rom/dvd rom drives. please ask your system adminerstrtor for permission to use nero.
Can anyone help or have i just wasted 43 quid.
I am not on any network or anything like that. I hope somebody can help.

If it is your personal laptop, you ARE the admin. When you set up the machine you should have set admin password to allow you deep down access. This is so no one but you can install progs, change settings.
If you can't supply a password, best bet might be a fresh re-install, and where it gives you the option, second choice, of "Windows assumes you are the only user of this machine" (I think that is the wording ) push that radio button. That also bypasses passwords for just opening Windows.
Hell, I've had 98 do that to me, when I installed 2k to the machine, got pissed, re-installed 98, and 2k rules over rode 98's leniency. An admin on 98, without setting it up as such? Bull.
Wipe and re-install, put 2k on its own partition, hell with the "permissions".
If you DO have an admin password, set your permissions to allow you to burn a CD, but ask someone else how you do that. I don't know.
Cheers,

What else can i do. Please somebody help this is driving me cracy i have searched searched and searched yet still no joy. -
i would say uninstall nero, and then reinstall it. if you can, download the latest version from nero.com

I thought in XP Home that their was no admin user unless you entered through safe mode? i.e http://www.tweakxp.com/tweak1128.aspx
Might that be the cause of the problem? -
I just put my DVD burner in a USB2 enclosure last week and am using it with a laptop running XP Home but haven't come across this problem.
I have version 6.0.0.28 of Nero. -
I have now had a fresh re install of win xp pro, seems to have fixed all.
Thanks all for input.
