  1. Hi to all up to date people........I'm from the old school I suppose when it comes to DVD-R burner programs.

Have always used my trusted Prassi Primo for burning DVD-R's for a long time now...................alas due to new writer (Pioneer 107) I need a more modern burner program.

What's everyone using these days for problem free burning??

Thanks for the advice (I say in advance of information)

  2. Nero. Nero Ultra Version 6 is nice but because of incompatibility with my firewire enclosure I have to use ver. 5.5.9.0 of the Nero Burning Rom application. That's probably one of the more popular apps around. Nero's solid and doesn't usually make coasters unless something is really wrong. It's a good app.

  4. DVD Decrypter 3190 for copying DVD5 or DVDR/W

Nero (Express) 6303 or RNM (px507) for burning VIDEO_TS

  5. If I use DVD Shrink,I use the Nero6.0 engine.
If I author my own dvd's from mpeg I use the engine that comes with TMPEGEnc Author(By far my Fav Dvd author program takes any mpeg thrown at it,and makes better menus than pro ones).
The Nero Vision Express is garbage(didn't like any of my mpegs).

If I made my living with a burning program there would be no way I would even look at anything but Nero. Some of the other burning programs are excellent, like Record Now etc. but, tend to lag behind in there recognition updates.

I have used Nero ( 5 & 6 ) for the past few years and have never had to wait for new updates so that my drives would work. I have 3 of them and Nero works great with them all. 2 Pioneers A05 and A06, and a Ricoh 5120 +RW.

Also use good media instead of the cheap stuff. Don't use the most expensive either. Ritek works great for me.

Have used Record Now Max and was also a good program but you can't have both on the same computer, so, I opted for Nero 6 and never looked back.

  13. Interesting aray of repies.....''

    Well firstly,

I may be completely wrong but I was led to believe in the beginning never never use Nero for burning DVD-R VIDEO_TS Folders. Great for cd-r but thats where it ends. Bloody hell this relates to older versions clearly as everyone seems to have great success with it. However I have never used it.

What you say is true then maybe I should consider using this (I have it already like most people).

My computer is fairly new and up to date running windows XP.

DVD Lab I actually use now to author my DVD's already so I may actually go with it on DVD burning unless there is a good reason why not?

However for replies with regard to this, Thanks a plenty....''

and as monty python would say.. "and now for something completely serious.."

Nero 6.0.0.19 works wonders for me
    but not the newer versions

    NERO IS Great but finnicky
if you have problems burning with 6.3xx
go back to 5.9xx if you can rather than spending the futile time trying to figure out the special reason why nero 6 is screwing up...

also from experience, if neither works for your system RECORD NOW MAX
    is the obvious choice

so rather than tearing the hair out tring to fix the elusive mystery of ASPI
XP and USB and FIREWIRE connectivity issues.. I just find "one of the good programs that burn" and get it working on that system

this is not to deny the use of those other fave programs that can only handle one of the tasks ...eg SHRINK, DECRYPTER, and the like

Prassi was rock steady I will agree..but isn't updated
ANYONE TRY EASY MEDIA CREATOR 7?
just joking as this roxio has struck out 2x with 5.0 and 6.0 not doing dvd burning any service

  17. For single layer discs I use DVD Decrypter to make an iso of the disc.

For movies with Full Screen and Widescreen I use Nero Recode with AnyDVD to remove the Full Screen version. This way all menus are intact.

If I just want the bloody movie I use Shrink to reauthor the disc (and I usually just keep DTS track, if I can fit dolby digital without sacrificing space then I'll throw that in).

Thats all I really use. Been working for me since I got my burner.

For the record, I use Nero 5.5.10.42 for audio CDs. I've had better luck with DVD-lab for authoring and B's Gold5 for burning than I've had with Nero, but that doesn't make it a bad program in my eyes.
