  1. Is it possible for a DVD player to play a mpg1 or mpg2 file
on a CD if the CD is not in a VCD, SVCD or DVD format. Just plain data cd with mpg files dump on the root directory of the CD or even in sub directorys

  2. There are a few DVD players that will do this. But they are rare. Check the DVD players list for info.

  5. My $49 Magnavox MDV421 (just discontinued) plays row MPEG (just burn MPG onto a cd and it plays it). You may still find it in some local stores or maybe a newer Magnavox/Philips will have this feature I assume.

Caveat: My Magnavox, and my understanding, all DVD players that play row MPG files have a small timer which is displayed on the screen at all times during playing this MPG file. The timer cannot be taken off screen, it is just there, it is a little annoying, but I got used to it.

Mine does... Found out by accident. My friend lent me a CD that I thought was a VCD. MY DVD player brought up some kind of root menu and I just clicked on it. Got to love Apex....
