  1. I caputered a 10 minute snippet from TV with my cable connected to a TV tuner on the PC. So I have a huge uncompressed AVI file. I played it back, and although playback was very slow, everything appeared to be in synch.

I loaded the file up in VirtualDub, and cut out the first minute which was a commercial. I saved as a new AVI file. Then, I played back that new AVI file, but the audio was about 10 seconds behind the video. Any idea on what I did wrong?

In addition, I originally converted the whole file to a DivX file without checking at what point the file got messed up. On that new DivX file, the audio was out of time, and the pitch was lower than the recording. However, when that new file got to a scene that was after a commercial I cut, the audio cut back and got in synch again, but then started trailing again, and it was pitched to low again.

That's when I began trying to find at which point the audio got out of synch, and to my surprise, it was what I talked about above, just simple cutting.

I'm feeling like I'm doing something wrong but I can't put my finger on it.

  2. When you cut in virtualdub, your end frame in the section to be cut must be a key frame, otherwise the audio and video won't sync properly.

    Hope this helps,

  3. I checked the VDub website and it said keyframes are indicated by a [K], and it seems that every frame has that indication, so when I cut it, I do believe I am cutting at a key frame.
