  1. These are the instructions I used

1b. You can also use DVD Decrypter to first decrypt the DVD and then you choose Open Files and open the video_ts.ifo from the decrypted dvd files

When I tried this it said failed to find Video_TS.ifo, I have VTS_01_0.IFO but I guess thats not the same. What may I have done wrong while ripping to not have this? I selected rip only movie files + IFO

I believe you have to rip the entire movie with DVDDecrypter for that to work properly.

That's the problem. In DVD Decrypter select file mode and rip. You can ask DVD Decrypter to select all the files automatically - tools>settings>file mode>on startup>all.

  4. DVD Shrink decodes from the source disk you don't need decryptor.

  5. I know DVD Shrink can rip, but I want to do deep analysis which takes a long time and I read its faster if you rip using Decrypt and then do the deep analysis off the HD. Plus i read its less wear on the DVD Writer.

You could use IFOedit to compile the vob files and it will create new .ifo files for you. I've done this and it seems to work fine. But it does take even more time then.

  7. As steveryan said .... DVD Decrypter, by default, selects movie only.

Just rip again with DVD Decrypter, but this time, look at the files which are highlighted and you will see that only the main movie files are selected. Hit CTRL + A to select all files, then rip.
Then proceed to DVD Shrink, armed with all the files.

You read? It's less wear on the drive that you are ripping with because it doesn't have to read the entire DVD twice - once for analyzing and once for encoding as would be the case if you use Deep Analysis when ripping with Shrink. It won't affect the writer unless you are ripping with it.

It's possible to have this problem occur even if you have selected to rip all files if there are read errors when ripping with DVD Decryptor. Even though all the files from the DVD are ripped (albeit with some ignored errors,) when you use Shrink to open the ripped files, it will complain that it can't find a file. But relax, I've found it complaining about a file that is NOT even supposed to exist. And I've had this happen on a few disks over the last year. Apparently the read errors during the rip have caused corruption which causes the errors in the "shrinking" program, whether it's DVDshrink, Recode, InstantCopy, DVD2one, or others. I'm not just throwing those names out there, I've tried them all when ripping corrupted vobs. You probably won't find a solution in any of the basic tutorials and get advice that you just need to rip all the files. But if you've checked the obvious and ripped all the files, here is the fix which I just posted recently in another thread:
Run IFO edit and select CREATE NEW IFOs. Select your movie VOBS and output to a selected folder. It will create DVD files. You can then open the resulting DVD structure in DVDshrink (and other 1-steppers) and Enjoy!
